December 2005

On Tuesday, December 6, the MTBC Nanotechnology Focus Group presentation was on “Materials and Processes for Flexible Electronics by Dr. Bruce Gnade of the University of Texas at Dallas.  Dr. Gnade is a member of both of the UTD departments of Chemistry and Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Gnade’s current work includes technology development in the areas of Electronic materials with an emphasis on dielectrics (low-K, high-K, and gate dielectrics other than SiO2) and display materials utilizing field emission materials, thin-film getters, and spacer materials from molecular electronics.  Much of Dr. Gnade's works has contributed to the advancement of electronic textiles that will push the limits of material performance, process integration, circuit design, and systems integration to demonstrate the full potential of flexible electronics.

Currently Dr. Gnade is a member of the board of directors of PixTech, Inc., a guest researcher for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and is a former DARPA program manger.   He has also been employed by Texas Instruments, Inc., from 1982 to 1996 in various senior technical staff and management positions.   Dr. Gnade currently holds 68 U.S. Patents and 54 Foreign Patents all related to specialized materials and process closely related to semiconductor substrates, dielectric materials, and semiconductor devices.

November 2005

On Tuesday, November 1, 2005, the MTBC Nanotechnology Focus Group presented "Advancements in Materials and Nano-Scale Mechanical Manipulation" by Dr. George Skidmore, Director of Research at Zyvex Corporation.  Based in Richardson, Zyvex is a leading supplier of tools, products, and services that enable adaptable, affordable, and molecularly precise manufacturing.

In addition to Dr. Skidmore's presentation, November's meeting included a round-table discussion regarding upcoming meetings and other Nanotechnology-related events.   As you all know by now, presentations at upcoming meetings will vary among numerous technical- and business-oriented topics, germane to engineers, administrators, and executives of companies of all sizes, from start-ups to F-500 corporations.
